Mary Hansen and John Hansen, Kevin Horigan and Janet Gillespie Injured in Murphys Car Collisions
MURPHYS, CA (August 29, 2019) – Four people sustained major injuries in two separate car collisions in Murphys on August 25.
The first collision happened at about 4:25 p.m. on Highway 4 near Williams Street, east of the downtown area. According to the CHP, 59-year-old Kevin Horigan of Murphys traveled east in a Mazda. However, Horigan let his Mazda drove across the double yellow lines into the path of 65-year-old Janet Lynch Gillespie of San Jose driving a Subaru.
The two vehicles crashed and both drivers sustained major injuries. Responders rushed the patients to hospitals in the central valley. Meanwhile, the authorities cited Horigan for DUI.
The second collision occurred an hour later on Highway 4 near Brice Station Road, east of Murphys. The CHP revealed that 75-year-old Mary Hansen of Modesto traveled west in a 2019 BMW. However, she went off the highway, hit two trees, and steered back onto Highway 4.
An air ambulance transported Hansen and her passenger, 73-year-old John Hansen of Modesto, to hospitals in the Central Valley.
The CHP ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision.
