UK Citizen Dies in Bicycle Crash on Highway 1 at Davenport Landing Road
DAVENPORT, CA (May 23, 2019) – A man was killed while riding his bicycle Thursday evening along Highway 1, in Davenport.
Authorities responded to the accident shortly after 9:40 p.m.
Officers identified the victim as 66-year-old Kevin Stephen Cook. He was a citizen of the United Kingdom and was visiting California at the time.
According to reports, Cook was riding his bicycle south near Davenport Landing Road, when a southbound Toyota Prius struck him.
Upon impact, Cook was ejected onto the northbound lanes of the highway. There, he he was also struck by two or more vehicles. The identified vehicles were described as a Ford Fusion and a Hyundai Accent.
Cook consequently suffered multiple blunt force injuries due to the impact. He was later pronounced dead on scene as a result of the collision.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Prius, a 61-year-old Santa Cruz woman, remained on scene. Both drivers of the Fusion and the Hyundai also stopped and were cooperative with authorities.
Furthermore, the highway was shut down in both directions for more than three hours during the on-scene investigation. However, the surrounding roadway was eventually reopened.
Drugs and alcohol were not ruled out as possible factors in the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
