Kerry Welsh of Glendora Killed in West Covina Crash, Driver Arrested for DUI

 
West Covina, CA (June 01, 2021) – On Saturday night, 19-year-old Kerry Welsh of Glendora lost her life in a broadside crash on Vine Avenue.
 
The fatal crash took place at the Hollenbeck Avenue intersection.
 
Reports said Welsh was traveling to her home to pick up her little sister from a birthday party.
 
Unfortunately, another driver flew through a stop sign and t-boned the vehicle she was driving.
 
Immediately, rescuers took Welsh to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
 
“She was the athlete of the year, she was the full-ride scholarship to Loyola Marymount University,” a family friend said. “Kerry was gonna be a doctor, you know? She was so good.”
 
Meanwhile, Louie Gonzales, one of those neighbors who witnessed the incident said:
 
“It sounded like a car that was gunning its engine, and not maybe two or three seconds later, heard the impact,”
 
Additionally, an unidentified neighbor said he could smell the scent of alcohol on one of the people who got out of the suspect vehicle.
 
Responders took the suspect driver to a nearby hospital.
 
Moreover, people said the car that struck Welsh might have been trying to race someone else. They also said this is something that happens all the time at the intersection.
 
Police later identified the suspect driver as 24-year-old Gilberto Moralez. The assailant has a prior conviction over a misdemeanor, and is now being charged with DUI.
