Jorge Fajardo Arrested in W Michigan Drive Fatal DUI Crash
Tucson, AZ (August 21, 2023) – On Sunday morning, 77-year-old Kenneth Van Buren was killed and the authorities arrested 22-year-old Jorge Fajardo in a collision on South 12th Avenue.
The traffic accident took place before 6 a.m. at the intersection with West Michigan Drive.
Responding officers located and declared Kenneth Van Buren dead at the scene. They also located an empty Nissan Altima.
According to the investigating off Van Buren was riding a mobility scooter northbound in the southbound lanes of 12th Avenue, on the west side of the roadway.
At the same time, Fajardo was northbound in his Nissan Altima. He drove left of center across South 12 Avenue and rear-ended Van Buren, continuing on into a light pole.
Fajardo was left the scene unharmed.
Officers said he came back a short while and they arrested him. The authorities confirmed his impairment at the time of the collision. They also discovered that his license was suspended for prior driving incidents.
The authorities charged Fajardo with several felony charges to include second degree murder and felony DUI. They booked him at the Pima County Jail.
Officers are still investigating.
