Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt after Three-Vehicle Collision near Redwood High School
VISALIA, CA (October 20, 2019) – A motorcyclist suffered injuries in three-vehicle collision on Giddings Street, Sunday evening.
According to the Visalia Police Department, the incident happened at about 5:00 PM. A Kia Forte, driven by 45-year-old Eric Olsen, attempted to turn westbound onto Mineral King Avenue on a green light. At the same time, a southbound Honda motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Juan Rodriguez, headed straight also on a green light.
Rodriguez hit the front right side of the Kia as it was turning. A Suzuki motorcycle, driven by 30-year-old Kenneth Hedstrom, attempted to avoid the collision but lost control. Then, Hedstrom hit the curb and was ejected from his motorcycle.
Emergency responders rushed Hedstrom to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with major injuries to his lower body. Meanwhile, Rodriguez and Olsen did not suffer serious injuries.
Investigators ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. However, they suspect speed played a role in the incident. Anyone with additional information should call the Visalia Police Department at (559) 734-8117.
Keep an eye out for motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians when behind the wheel. Also, make sure to stay within the speed limit and to follow the rules of the road. Be on the lookout for possible road hazards to prevent dangerous accidents.
