3 Killed in Fiery Two-Vehicle Wreck near North Mount Shasta Boulevard
MOUNT SHASTA, CA (August 12, 2018) – Three people were killed Sunday afternoon after two vehicles collided head-on near North Mount Shasta Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly before 1:00 PM. A pickup truck was heading southbound on Interstate 5 when it entered a construction zone. The driver attempted to pass slower moving traffic by crossing a dirt and gravel median.
For unknown reasons, the pickup truck struck a northbound motorhome. Both vehicles tumbled down a steep embankment and burst into flames, as a result of the impact.
The occupants of the motorhome, 48-year-old Kelli Monroe and 58-year-old Jeff Mueller, both residents of Oregon City, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities also confirmed the death of the pickup driver, whose identity and city of residence remain undisclosed.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the events that led to the deadly crash and to identify possible contributing factors. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved loved ones of Kelli Monroe, Jeff Mueller, and the other deceased victim. May they all rest in peace.
