60-Year-Old Woman ID’ed in Fatal Bike Accident on Palm Avenue and 4th Street
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (February 24, 2018) – A 60-year-old woman was fatally injured in a bicycle accident on the 300 block of Palm Avenue at Fourth Street on Saturday morning.
The victim was identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday as Kathleen Ann Cua. She was riding eastbound on Palm Ave with two other cyclists around 5:15 AM, when a westbound car turned in front of her and struck her.
Cua was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but sustained serious injuries. She was transported to the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center in Hillcrest. Despite medical treatment for her multiple injuries, she was pronounced dead on Sunday at 5:25 PM.
The driver remained on the scene of the crash and cooperated with authorities. Authorities do not believe that drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal accident. No other information has been provided at this time.
The intersection of 4th St and Palm Ave was shut down while officials investigated the scene.
