Three Xavier College Preparatory High School Students Hospitalized after Accident near Madison Street
INDIO, CA (September 29, 2018) – Three people were hospitalized early Saturday morning following a solo-vehicle accident near Madison Street. The victims were later identified as Xavier College Preparatory High School students: Kai Killebrew, Jaylen Rushin, and Matthew Shupp.
According to the Indio Police Department, the incident took place at about 3:40 AM on Avenue 49. For unknown reasons, the unidentified vehicle left the road and overturned.
Killebrew, Rushin, and Shupp were injured in the crash. One of them was flown to an area trauma center with serious injuries, while the two others suffered minor to moderate injuries. Updates on their current medical conditions were not immediately available.
Excessive speed is considered as a possible contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
