K9 Deputy Struck and Killed in Car Crash on Avenue 328 in Visalia
VISALIA, CA (October 18, 2019) — A Tulare K9 Deputy was struck and killed by a car on Avenue 328 in Visalia on Wednesday, October 16.
On Wednesday evening, Rocco’s handler stopped to let him take a bathroom break in the area of Avenue 328.
While on break, Rocco noticed a rabbit and started to chase after it. Rocco went after the rabbit out into the roadway. A car struck Rocco within seconds.
K9 Deputy “Rocco” was a one-year-old Belgian Malinois. He has been of service to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office since May of this year.
Officers draped Rocco in an American Flag and a procession took Tulare County Sheriff’s K-9 deputy Rocco on his final ride-along.
Neighboring agencies helped temporarily shut down roads and escort Rocco to the veterinarian’s office where deputies and handlers waited to see their fallen comrade for one last time.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit is still in the process of planning a funeral service for Rocco.
Any person who wants to donate to honor Rocco can do so with the Tulare County Sheriff’s foundation.
