Daniel Muniz Jr. Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash in the 500 Block of East Austin

Kermit, TX (November 1, 2024) – Two juveniles remain in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash in the 500 Block of East Austin.

Authorities identified 17-year-old Daniel Muniz Jr. as the driver involved in the collision.

On Thursday, October 31, around 9:05 p.m., the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office reported a crash involving Muniz’s vehicle and two juvenile pedestrians in the 500 Block of East Austin, Kermit.

Both juveniles sustained major injuries, prompting a swift response from the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office, Kermit Police Department, and Winkler County EMS.

Muniz allegedly failed to stop at the scene immediately after the collision. However, a Good Samaritan followed the vehicle and informed authorities of its location.

Kermit Police officers located Muniz shortly afterward and took him into custody without incident.

The injured juveniles were initially taken to WCMH-ER with severe traumatic injuries.

Both were later airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock by Aerocare, where they remain in critical condition.

Muniz now faces two charges for Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury.
