Utah Man Dies, Two Others Hospitalized in Placer County Crash
PLACER COUNTY, CA (August 15, 2019) – A Utah man was killed following a rollover crash Thursday afternoon on 80 Freeway in Placer County, the California Highway Patrol said.
Justin Gile, 22, of West Haven, Utah, was driving a Ford pickup truck westbound when he veered off the freeway near Drum Forebay Road around 1:05 p.m.
The pickup traveled about 30 feet, crashed into trees and landed on its roof.
As a result, Gile died at the scene.
His two passengers, a 19-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child, were hospitalized with major injuries. Their conditions were unknown Friday.
Traffic on 80 Freeway west of Drum Forebay Road was significantly slowed Thursday afternoon. It had returned to normal by 4:00 p.m., Caltrans indicated.
The CHP is still piecing together what led up to the crash but do not believe any other vehicles were involved.
We extent our condolences to the family and friends of Justin Gile. We also wish the injured victims a swift and steady recovery.
