Jaron Blake Hillyer Arrested for Hit-and-Run Collision near Nimitz Boulevard
OCEAN BEACH, CA (April 9, 2018) – The hit-and-run driver that injured a good Samaritan in an accident on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard about a month ago, has finally been identified and arrested on Monday.
27-year-old Jaron Blake Hillyer was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, and driving with no valid insurance. He posted his $50,000 bail, and is in the process of being released.
The accident took place on April 9th, just after midnight, on the 2900 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. 26-year-old Julio Vazquez had pulled over to aid a disabled Lexus on the side of the road, when Hillyer struck him with his vehicle, before fleeing the scene.
Vazquez suffered multiple injuries and was taken to the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center for treatment. He remained in the hospital for five days but is still recovering from a collapsed lung, a broken rib, road rash, a broken leg, and physical and mental struggles. Even after all his pain and suffering, Vazquez says that he would do it all again if put in the same situation.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Vazquez, a husband and father of two, with medical bills. Click on the link to donate.
With help from the public, police officials were able to locate the hit-and-run car on the 4300 block of Orchard Avenue, about a mile south of the crash. The vehicle was a green 1998 or 1999 Subaru Outback Legacy station wagon with front-end damage and a broken windshield.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and urge any witnesses or individuals with additional information, to contact the San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2000. To remain anonymous, call the Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-8477.
