Julio Sanchez Arrested for DUI Hit-and-Run Accident That Kills Port Hueneme Teen Cyclist
Oxnard, CA (October 01, 2021) – Last month, a 16-year-old male bicyclist from Port Hueneme died in Hemlock Street hit-and-run crash.
The fatal Oxnard DUI crash took place at around 8:35 p.m. east of North Street.
Investigating officers said the male teen was westbound on Hemlock Street and had the right of way when the crash happened.
At the same time, the involved car was also westbound and rear-ended the bicycle.
Emergency rescuers took the victim to Ventura County Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Moreover, officers said the victim was wearing a headlight and the bike had reflectors. However, the authorities could not tell whether the bike had a red tail light when the accident took place. They said the cyclist was not wearing a helmet.
After a thorough search, the authorities found the vehicle abandoned on Hemlock Street and Patterson Road.
They later identified the assailant that fled the scene, 39-year-old Oxnard man Julio Cesar Sanchez. They arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
On Monday, Sanchez appeared in court to plead not guilty to the charges. Additionally, he is due back in court on the 14th of October.
