Solano County, CA (April 13, 2021) – On Sunday, 29-year-old Mason Wessel was arrested in a DUI crash on Interstate 80 that killed 47-year-old Julie Phillips.
The fatal DUI accident took place at 2:40 a.m., near Dixon Avenue West.
Officers said that initially, Larry Bowie, a Vallejo man, drove a Mazda CX-5 down Interstate 80 when he rear-ended a Hyundai Elantra.
The 31-year-old man stopped, blocking the lanes on the highway.
Moreover, witnesses started to help Bowie and the Elantra driver, when a Toyota Tacoma drove into the scene and struck a Toyota Prius.

Afterward, he also struck Julie Phillips, a good Samaritan attempting to assist those in the initial crash.
Unfortunately, she died at the scene.
Right away, rescuers rushed both the Mazda and the Toyota Prius drivers to Vacaville Kaiser Permanente.
Officers said Wessel suffered major injuries and was also hospitalized.
