Box Truck Passenger Dies after Crash with Bus in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 29, 2019) – A man was killed when a box truck crashed into the rear of a bus early Wednesday morning on the Bay Bridge.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Juhmoni Thompson Crain, 23, of Hayward.
Crain was a passenger in the box truck which rear-ended a bus as it came to a stop. The crash happened just before 4:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the bridge, just East of Treasure Island.
The impact of the crash caused the truck to overturn onto its side.
Crain was pronounced dead on scene due to the impact of the collision.
The driver of the box truck and a second passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Two bus passengers were also hospitalized with complaints of pain.
The bus, owned by the Golden Gate Transit District, was commissioned by BART to take early commuters to the Salesforce Transit Center because of work being done on the Transbay Tube. It was carrying about 20 passengers.
Another bus picked up the stranded passengers and took them to the center. Other buses were re-routed over the Richmond-San Rafael and Golden Gate bridges.
Investigation of this fatal incident is still currently ongoing.
