50-Year-Old Woman Dies in Pedestrian Crash at 67th Avenue and Thomas Road
PHOENIX, AZ (December 10, 2019) – A woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning at a west Phoenix intersection, authorities said.
According to Phoenix police, the fatal incident happened at 67th Avenue and Thomas Road.
The woman, identified as 50-year-old Juana DeLaTorre, was walking in the crosswalk when a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado struck her.
Police said the driver was making a left hand turn from 67th Avenue to Thomas Road on a yellow signal and did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk.
Paramedics rushed DeLaTorre to a hospital in extremely critical condition. The victim died a short time later.
The driver, an unidentified 31-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Police said the driver was not impaired at the time of the incident. Speed does not also appear to be a factor.
An investigation is still ongoing.
