56-Year-Old Castroville Van Passenger Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash near Old Monterey Road
GILROY, CA (August 13, 2018) – A van passenger was reportedly killed Monday following a multi-car crash on Highway 101. The deceased victim was later identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as 56-Year-Old Juan Sosa Santos of Castroville.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place around 8:00 AM on the northbound lanes of the 101 freeway, just south of Old Monterey Road.
The report showed that a 2012 Ford van was traveling behind a 2018 Peterbilt big-rig that began to slow its speed. The driver of the Ford failed to stop in time and the van rear-ended the trailer. Due to the impact of the collision, the van was pushed into another lane, where it crashed into a 2005 Ford Explorer.
Santos, who was the right front passenger in the van, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the van and another passenger, as well as the driver of the Peterbilt, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured in the crash.
