Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Vehicle near Highway 101
SAN JOSE, CA (November 28, 2018) – A man was killed Wednesday evening following a bicycle accident near Highway 101. The victim was later identified as 27-year-old Juan Perez Lopez. His city of residence was not immediately disclosed.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Interstate 280, at about 9:45 PM. Perez Lopez climbed over a guardrail from the right shoulder, carried his bike, and started to ride across the lanes of traffic. A short time later, he was hit by a black Acura.
The impact of the collision ejected the victim from his bicycle, causing critical injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the woman driving the Acura remained and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
