20-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Crash on Cathedral Canyon Drive at Paseo Real
CATHEDRAL CITY (January 29, 2018) – A fatal motorcycle accident happened on Monday night around 5:45 PM, on the 34500 block of Cathedral Canyon Drive, north of wash.
Juan Macias, 20, was traveling at high speeds going south on Cathedral Canyon Drive, when he struck the passenger side of a car. The vehicle, driven by former Cathedral City Councilmember Paul Marchand, was exiting a gated community and headed west across Cathedral Canyon.
According to Cmdr. Julio Luna, Macias flew off his motorcycle and onto the road about 150 feet away from the accident, and was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency personnel at 6:04 PM. Marchand was not injured in the crash.
Cathedral Canyon Dr was closed at Dinah Shore and Perez for several hours while investigation took place and the wreckage was cleared from the road. Police believe that drugs and alcohol were not involved in this fatal crash, but instead, speed.
