Two Injured in Two-Car Collision on 241 Freeway in Mabton City Limits
MABTON, WA (March 5, 2018) – Two Sunnyside residents were injured in a two-car collision on Highway 241 on Monday afternoon.
Around 4:50 PM, 70-year-old Rebecca Knott of Mabton was driving northbound in her 2003 Mitsubishi Montero, when she attempted to make a left turn and was hit by a 1999 Honda Civic that was going south.
The driver of the Honda, 21-year-old Juan L Garza and his 18-year-old female passenger, Marissa A Cantu were injured in the collision and transported by ambulance to the PMH Medical Center in Prosser. There is no update on their current condition; no other injuries or damages were reported.
All three people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. WSP troopers do not believe that drugs and alcohol were contributing factors and believe that inattention was the cause of the incident. Knott was cited by patrol officers for failure to yield the right of way.
Make sure to follow the rules of the road when behind the wheel. Unnecessary accidents and injuries can be avoided when driving carefully and safely. Always use turn signals, yield to the right of way pedestrians and other vehicles, and remain in the designated speed limit.
