Two Pedestrians Struck and Killed by Car on Elm Avenue and Avenue J Intersection
LANCASTER, CA (April 15, 2018) – A man and woman were killed in a pedestrians accident that took place on the intersection of Elm Avenue and Avenue J, early Sunday morning.
The accident took place around 12:55 AM, when the two pedestrians walked into the path of a Chevrolet Cruz. The Chevy was traveling eastbound on Avenue J in the number two lane at Elm Ave, when it hit a Hispanic man and a black woman.
According to reports, the driver stated that he was unable to avoid the collision. He remained at the scene, called 911, and cooperated with officials. Both people were pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.
Assistant Chief Ed Winter from the coroner’s office identified the man as 24-year-old Joshua Hidalgo Molina. The female victim remains unidentified at this time, according to Sgt Michael Politano of Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
Molina may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, but it is unknown if the woman was impaired. Authorities continue to investigate the fatal collision. Officials do not believe that the driver was speeding or impaired. Witnesses are urged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff Station’s Traffic Office by calling (661) 948-8466.
