3 Killed and 1 Injured in Merced Head-On Collision near Kibby Road
MERCED, CA (May 29, 2018) – Three people were killed Wednesday and one other was seriously injured after a head-on collision between two vehicles on the eastern outskirts of Merced. Two of the three fatalities were identified as 40-year-old Joshua Harris of Atwater and 46-year-old Brian Martin of Merced.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 9:30 AM on East Yosemite Avenue, just east of Kibby Road. A westbound 1996 Nissan Sentra, driven by Harris, was seen trying to pass two vehicles by entering the eastbound lane when it collided head-on with a 2000 Honda sedan, driven by Martin.
Harris and Martin were both pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger inside the Honda, Michelle Crowder, believed to be in her 60’s, was airlifted to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto after sustaining major injuries. An unidentified male passenger in the Nissan died at the hospital. His name was not immmediately available.
It was determined that the Nissan’s unsafe passing was a big factor in the deadly collision. Investigators are also working on confirming how fast the vehicles were traveling at the time of the crash. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Joshua Harris, Brian Martin, and the third deceased victim. May they rest in peace.
