FRESNO, CA (December 1, 2019) – A man was killed and a woman was badly injured following a DUI crash early Sunday morning in Fresno.
The fatal crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 99, just south of Clinton Avenue.
A 2014 Subaru was traveling northbound when for unknown reasons, it crashed into a concrete wall along the highway. The couple inside the Subaru, 28-year-old Joshua Eisen of Merced and 28-year-old Jennifer Ramos got out of their vehicle and stood on the right shoulder of the highway.
A 2007 Honda Civic, driven by 22-year-old Amado Mendez Ventura of Madera, was heading northbound on Highway 99. It was approaching Clinton Avenue at an unknown rate of speed during heavy rain when the driver made an unsafe turn to the right shoulder and slammed into a concrete wall.
The Honda then struck the Subaru head-on as well as Eisen and Ramos.
Eisen was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramos sustained major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
Ventura and his male passenger were uninjured in the crash.
Authorities arrested Ventura and booked him into the Fresno County Jail on charges of DUI causing death, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving without a license. His bail is $93,600.
We would like to extend our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joshua Eisen. We also wish Jennifer Ramos a fast and steady recovery.
