Bakersfield Man Identified as Person Struck and Killed by Vehicle near Ming Avenue
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 5, 2019) – Authorities identified 24-year-old Joshua Chavez-Quintero of Bakersfield as the man fatally struck by a truck near Ming Avenue.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers pulled over Quintero for reckless driving at about 10:42 PM. In an attempt to flee the scene, the victim exited his vehicle and ran across traffic on Highway 99. There, he was struck by a southbound Volvo semi-truck.
Emergency responders transported Quintero to Kern Medical Center with severe injuries. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries days after the incident. Meanwhile, the Volvo driver did not stop to render aid and continued to drive south. It is unknown whether or not the driver was aware of the collision.
An investigation is ongoing to identify possible contributing factors. Witnesses are encouraged to cooperate with investigators as soon as possible. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
