High-Speed Collision on China Grade Loop in Bakersfield Kills 2 and Badly Injures 1
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 11, 2019) – Two people were killed following a high-speed crash Monday evening in Bakersfield, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 9:33 p.m. at the intersection of China Grade Loop and Manor Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Challenger was traveling eastbound on China Grade Loop at a very high rate of speed when it ran a red light at Manor Street and slammed into a pickup truck.
The driver of the Challenger, a 27-year-old Joshua James Andrews of Porterville, and his female passenger, a 32-year-old Lori Sue Soto of Bakersfield, were killed in the crash.
The driver of the pickup, a 33-year-old Bakersfield man, suffered major injuries and was hospitalized.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs have played a role in the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
