Joseph McHenry Sustained Injuries in Merced Motorcycle Crash
MERCED, CA (April 23, 2019) – A rider sustained major injuries following a motorcycle accident in Merced on Friday, April 19.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when his motorcycle collided into a pickup truck that pulled out in front of him.
Joseph McHenry, 42, of Stevinson, rode a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle east on Highway 140 as he moved toward Buhach Road at around 5:50 a.m., CHP stated.
63-year-old Jose Brenes Sanchez of Merced that drove a 2015 Ford F-150 was stopped at Buhach Road. However, he pulled out in front of the motorcycle, according to the CHP. The motorcycle then struck the driver side of the truck and caused McHenry to be thrown off from his motorcycle.
Paramedics airlifted McHenry to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CHP said. Brenes Sanchez did not have any injuries.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the incident, CHP said.
Motorcycle riders rarely escape injury when an accident occurs. If you are riding a motorcycle, do not underestimate the bike’s speed. In addition, you should strictly follow traffic laws and the conditions of the road. For other motorists, do not tailgate a motorcycle and maintain a safe following distance. Give motorcycles a full traffic lane when you pass and remember that they too have equal rights on the road.
