3 Injured in Modesto DUI Hit-and-Run Collision on College Avenue
MODESTO, CA (May 13, 2020) – Saturday evening, Joseph Macedo was arrested after an injury collision on College Avenue in Modesto.
According to the Modesto police, Macedo escaped the crash scene after injuring a woman and two children.
When the medical responders arrived at the scene, they transported the three victims, the 22-year-old female driver and passengers ages 7 and 11, to local hospitals. “The children did not have any serious complaints but were sent based on protocols due to the severity of the accident,” said Modesto Fire Department Battalion Chief Andrew Martin Hunter.
The responding units used hydraulic tools to extricate the female driver pinned in her pickup. The crash left her serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Hunter added.
At this time, the authorities haven’t established the circumstances that have led to the crash. However, a photo from the Modesto Fire Department showed that the collision sent the pickup crashing into a signal light pole. As a result, the pole was knocked down.
Meanwhile, police Lt. Jason Grogan revealed that the driver of the other vehicle escaped the crash scene before the authorities arrived. His vehicle was a black Honda. Fortunately, the police managed to track him a block away. Grogan also confirmed that the man reeked of alcohol.
The authorities identified the Honda driver as 23-year-old Joseph Anthony Macedo of Modesto. Macedo admitted that he drove the Honda and consented to take a breath test. After the test, they found out that Joseph Macedo blew over 0.08 percent, the legal blood alcohol content limit.
Due to this, the police booked him on suspicion of hit-and-run, DUI causing injury and driving on a license that’s been revoked or suspended because of DUI. His bail was set at $50,000 and have remained in custody Sunday morning.
According to reports, Joseph Macedo had an existing case in the Stanislaus County Superior Court system for DUI and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
If you’re ever involved in a car accident, the best thing to do is remain at the scene and check on others if needed. Leaving the scene of an accident can result in severe consequences for you. Above all, it is your responsibility to deal with the aftermath of an accident, which will likely be less severe than fleeing.
