Joseph Hansen Madarang Arrested in Deadly Pedestrian Crash on Ninth Street [Los Angeles, CA]

1 Dead in Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident on Ninth Street and Olive Street

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 20, 2022) – Friday night, authorities arrested Joseph Hansen Madarang after a deadly pedestrian crash on Ninth Street.
 
The incident happened at around 11:40 p.m. on Ninth Street and Olive Street.
 
According to reports, a silver Lexus IS200t drove westbound on Ninth Street in an eastbound one-way street. Then, Joseph Hansen Madarang hit the two men as they crossed a marked crosswalk.
 
“The impact of the collision caused both pedestrians to be catapulted into the air and land on the street,” police said. “The driver of the Lexus continued to drive westbound and crashed head-on with another vehicle, which was waiting at a red light at the opposite side of the intersection.”
 
Then, the Lexus failed to leave the scene after striking a passenger vehicle and then a tractor-trailer.
 
Afterward, the driver placed the car in reverse. However, a “community member” blocked the path with his vehicle. Then, several bystanders kept the motorist at the scene until the police arrived.
 
Meanwhile, medical responders transported the two pedestrians to a hospital. However, one of them, a 36-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the second pedestrian, a 32-year-old man, sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Eventually, officers arrested Joseph Hansen Madarang of Los Angeles on suspicion of felony drunk driving. He’s currently being held in lieu of $130,000 bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles.
