Driver Dies after Car Catches Fire on West Las Positas Boulevard in Pleasanton
PLEASANTON, CA (January 18, 2020) – The man killed in a fiery crash Saturday night in Pleasanton has been identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau as Joseph Freschi, 58, of Pleasanton.
The crash happened around 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of West Las Positas Boulevard and Hacienda Drive.
According to police, Freschi was driving a 2018 Tesla Model S when he lost control, hit a traffic signal pole and a cement wall. The car then caught fire, instantly killing him.
The car battery re-ignited after police cleared it from the scene, forcing fire crews to put it out.
Freschi was admitted to the bar in 1992 and graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles law school, according to the State Bar of California website.
Police said they were unsure whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
Further investigation is underway.
