Motorcyclist Killed after Colliding with Pickup Truck at an Intersection in Los Osos
LOS OSOS, CA (January 31, 2018) – A 37-year-old Los Osos man died after his motorcycle collided with a pickup Wednesday evening around 9 PM, on the intersection on Los Oses Valley Road and Broderson Avenue.
According to California Highway Patrol, a man named Joseph French was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at high speeds down the Los Osos Valley Road and Broderson Avenue intersection.
At the same time, 30-year-old Joseph Metzger of Los Osos, was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger and was turning left from westbound Los Osos Valley Rd to southbound Broderson Ave. The motorcycle crashed into the right side of the Ford which made the truck to turn over onto its left side. As a result of the impact, French was ejected from the motorcycle and thrown to the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports stated that the truck’s passenger, 28-year-old Rebecca Bailey of Arroyo Grande, sustained multiple injuries including pelvis fractures. Metzger suffered lacerations to his left arm.
Both the vehicle and the motorcycle sustained major damage in the collision.
Authorities determined that Metzger was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They also confirmed that both occupants of the truck were wearing seatbelts, and the motorcyclist was wearing an open-face helmet. The accident remains under investigation, and authorities urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the San Luis Obispo CHP office at (805) 594-8700.
