Late Evening Crash Involving 2 Cars on Highway 101 in Paso Robles Kills One and Injures Another
PASO ROBLES, CA (December 13, 2019) – One man died and another was injured following a two-car crash late Friday evening in Paso Robles.
The crash happened around 11:06 p.m. on Highway 101 near Main Street.
According to the CHP, a 1998 Ford Explorer was heading northbound on Highway 101. The driver turned right while approaching a 2015 Honda CRV in the leftmost lane. Moments later, the Explorer slammed into the back of the Honda.
The impact propelled the Honda in a northeast direction and eventually collided with a guardrail. The Explorer went eastward and off the roadway. It then crashed into a roadside sign and a tree, before landing on its roof.
As a result, the driver of the Explorer died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Jose Toral, 35, of Atascadero.
The driver of the Honda, 59-year-old John Hutchings, was injured.
Police say alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of Jose Toral. We also wish John Hutchings a steady recovery.
