Jose Sandoval Fatally Injured in San Jose Pedestrian Crash
SAN JOSE, CA (January 14, 2019) — An elderly man died on Thursday night after sustaining injuries in a car crash on Monday, January 7.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 83-year-old Jose Sandoval, of San Jose.
According to San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten, the fatal accident happened at the intersection of McKee Road and El Rancho Verde Drive at around 6:40 p.m.
Tepoorten said that Sandoval was pushing a shopping cart in a crosswalk facing a red light on McKee Road when a 2000 Mazda 626 driving west through the intersection struck him.
Sandoval was rushed to a medical center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Mazda stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities, Tepoorten stated. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the incident.
