83-Year-Old Man Dies in Pedestrian Crash near Regional Medical Center in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (January 10, 2019) – An elderly man was killed after being struck by a car Thursday night in San Jose, according to San Jose police.
The fatal incident happened around 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of McKee Road and El Rancho Verde Drive, just near the Regional Medical Center.
Authorities said the man was pushing a shopping cart in a crosswalk facing a red light on McKee Road when he was struck by a 2000 Mazda 626 driving westbound through the intersection.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Jose Sandoval, 83, of San Jose.
The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and was cooperative, police said.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not being ruled out as factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
