Jose Rubio Killed in Upriver Drive DUI Crash [Spokane, WA]

Spokane, WA (May 21, 2022) – On May 7, Jose Rubio, 19, lost his life in a DUI crash on Upriver Drive involving Joshua Aguirre, 19, of Spokane.

Aguirre says he drank five Twisted Teas, two shots of Fireball and had four “dabs,” or cannabis oil, the night of May 6.

The following morning, at around 8:30 a.m. he and Rubio decided to have their breakfast in Spokane Valley.

Aguirre confessed that he rear-ended a vehicle on Argonne Road wherein he did not stop and drove west on Upriver Drive. Aguirre tol the police that he drove at 55 to 65 mph before he lost control of the Jetta. However, a witness says he traveled at 70 to 100 mph.

Moreover, the witness said the Jetta driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve and hit a tree on the side of the road before it rolled several times.

Unfortunately, Rubio lost his life in this crash. The  Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office says he died from “blunt force injuries of the head and torso”.

Aguirre told the authorities Valencia was not wearing a seat belt when the accident happened. 

Additionally, the police located alcohol and marijuana in the car and a preliminary breath test determined Aguirre’s blood alcohol level at 0.106, above the 0.08 legal limit in Washington.

He is charged with vehicular homicide and hit-and-run.

Meanwhile, court documents says Aguirre was on a medical stretcher with a neck brace at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center after the fatal collision.
