Jose Refugio Ramirez of Edinburg Killed in US 281 Vehicle Collision [San Juan, TX]

Truck Driver Transported in San Juan Deadly Crash

San Juan, TX (January 1, 2024) – 60-year-old Jose Refugio Ramirez of Edinburg was killed following a US 281 vehicle collision Wednesday night.

The fatal traffic accident happened around 9:03 p.m. west of FM 2557.

Investigators determined that a red Chevrolet Uplander driven by Refugio Ramirez alone was stationary southbound at a stop sign on FM 2557 and US 281 intersection.

At the same time, a green International ProStar truck towing a silver Truxton Tanker occupied by the male driver alone was transporting petroleum. It was westbound on US 281 Refugio Ramirez failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign.

Refugio Ramirez attempted to make a left turn onto US 281 when his vehicle collided with the truck. 

Immediately, the medical rescuers rushed the truck driver to McAllen Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sadly, Refugio Ramirez was declared deceased at the scene. 

DPS Troopers are investigating this fatal collision.
