Sofia Prieto, Jose Prieto Dead in Crash on Grapefruit Boulevard and Mitchell Drive
COACHELLA, CA (May 20, 2019) – A man and a woman died following a two-vehicle accident in Coachella at 6:54 p.m. on Friday, May 17.
The fatal victims of the crash have been identified as 75-year-old Jose Prieto and 74-year-old Sofia Prieto of Coachella.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, he collision happened on Grapefruit Boulevard and Mitchell Drive. Deputy Mike Vasquez stated a white passenger vehicle and a grey Ford truck collided in the area.
Jose Prieto died at the scene.
Sofia Prieto was ejected from the vehicle during the accident. After that, paramedics transported her to the hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries soon after.
The driver of the white vehicle sustained major injuries and was in critical condition. However, the victim’s current medical status is unknown at this time.
Authorities shut down the roads in the area for several hours. In addition, CHP is still investigating the incident.
