70-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Pedestrian Collision on Barmouth Drive Intersection
ANTIOCH, CA (March 16, 2018) – Three weeks after a hit-and-run pedestrian collision, Jose Oliva’s family decided to take him off of life support on Sunday evening.
On the Friday night leading to St Patrick’s Day, Oliva got off work and was walking home from the bus stop at the intersection of Davison and Barmouth Drives, when struck by an unknown vehicle. The car left the scene, leaving the 70-year-old man in the road to die.
Emergency personnel rushed him to the John Muir Medical Center in walnut Creek for medical treatment, and later transferred him to Kaiser Permanente in Antioch.
He was in critical condition and suffered multiple injuries such as severe head trauma, multiple broken bones (cheekbones, jaw, neck, ribs, pelvis, hip, leg, and ankle), and was on a ventilator for the past three weeks. Doctors did not think that he would make it, and his family made the decision to take him off life support.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Oliva’s family with medical expenses and funeral costs.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal collision. There is currently no description of the hit-and-run driver, or car involved. If you witnessed the accident, contact police officials.
Wishing the family and friends of Jose Oliva strength and support in this very difficult time. May he rest in peace.
