5 Dead in Eagle Pass Auto Accident on US 57
EAGLE PASS, TX (May 30, 2024) – Tuesday night, 71-year-old Jose Martinez and their family died in a brutal 2-vehicle crash on US 57.
The incident happened as the family of five traveled in a gray 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV westbound on US 57, nine miles east of Eagle Pass.
Then, an eastbound Ford box truck failed to drive in a single lane, driving into the wrong side of the roadway, and colliding with the Hyundai head-on.
As a result, the driver and all passengers of the Hyundai were declared dead at the scene.
Officers identified the victims as 71-year-old Martinez, 61-year-old Noemi Jimenez Martinez, 34-year-old Joanna Martinez and 25-year-old Samantha Martinez.
Also, officers confirmed that a 10-year-old female passenger succumbed to injuries as emergency crews tried to transport her to a nearby hospital.
Moreover, the driver of the box truck sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
