Jose Martin Rodriguez-Lua Killed in Horrific 2-Vehicle Crash on US 281 Military Highway [Donna, TX]

2 Dead in Donna Auto Accident on US 281 Military Highway and FM 493

DONNA, TX (November 3, 2024) – Friday night, Jose Martin Rodriguez-Lua died in a horrific 2-vehicle crash on US 281 Military Highway.

The incident involving two vehicles happened at around 9:00 p.m. on US 281 Military Highway, east of FM 493.

A preliminary investigation found that a U.S. Border Patrol transport van, carrying only a driver and a passenger, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 281 Military Highway, just east of F.M. 493. 

A Ford F-150, occupied by a lone driver, was traveling westbound in the wrong lane and collided head-on with the van. 

The impact caused the F-150 to roll over and catch fire. The driver of the van, a Border Patrol Agent, sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, but has since been released. 

Rodriguez-Lua, a 21-year-old Border Patrol Processing Coordinator from Brownsville and the van’s passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the F-150 suffered fatal burns and could not be identified. 

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
