45-Year-Old Mabton Man Hospitalized after Accident on 241 Freeway near Yakima River
MABTON, WA (March 8, 2018) – A local man was hospitalized after struck by a pickup truck on State Highway 241 on Thursday evening around 10:37 PM.
Jose M Amezcua, 45, was driving southbound in a 2015 Mazda 3 when it left the road and hit the northbound guardrail. His vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road.
The man came out of his car to inspect the damage and was struck by a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by 46-year-old Joel Amezcua Alvarez of Mabton. Amezcua sustained injuries and was taken to the Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital in Yakima. The pickup truck driver was not injured in the collision, and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
Inattention was the cause of the accident, and drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors. Amezcua was cited for improper lane usage.
When driving on the highway, it is important to always keep an eye out for vehicles and motorcycles that could be stopped on the road or shoulder; especially in the evening when it is more difficult to see. Remain in the speed limit and stay alert while behind the wheel.
