33-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies after Rear-End Crash near McCall Avenue, Efrain Cervantes Involved
SANGER, CA (September 9, 2018) – A man was killed Sunday late Sunday afternoon following a motorcycle crash on Highway 180. The victim was later identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as 33-year-old Jose Luis Navarro.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 4:00 PM near McCall Avenue. A Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Navarro, was heading east on Highway 180 when it slammed into the rear of a 2009 Civic.
The impact of the crash threw Navarro from his motorcycle, causing fatal injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, the driver of the Civic, identified as 42-year-old Efrain Cervantes of Reedley, remained and cooperated with investigators.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the motorcyclist failed to notice that the Civic was stopped for a red light and did not have enough time to avoid the vehicle. Investigators continue to work on determining other possible contributing factors, and no additional details were released.
