1 Dead in Travis County Auto Accident on FM 969

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX (May 18, 2023) – Sunday, Jose Jacobo Melgar-Menjivar died while in custody after a tragic vehicle crash on FM 969.

Responders responded to the area of 10100-10506 FM 969 in eastern Travis County near Bud Dryden Airport after reports of a multi-vehicle crash just before 4 p.m.

Upon the deputies‘ arrival, they located citizens trying to gain control of and assist a male driver.

Officers noted that the man appeared to be in an altered mental state. Thus, deputies detained him and determined he needed medical treatment.

Then, responders took 26-year-old Melgar-Menjivar into Austin-Travis County EMS’s care.

However, he suffered a medical emergency and medics failed to revive him.

At 5 p.m., the authorities declared him dead.

Meanwhile, responders took another person to a nearby hospital following the crash.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
