29-Year-Old Long Beach Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle near West Del Amo Boulevard
LONG BEACH, CA (June 23, 2018) – A man was killed early Saturday morning and another was hospitalized after they were both struck by a vehicle while walking along the 710 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened shortly after 2:00 AM near West Del Amo Boulevard. 29-year-old Jose Garcia, of Long Beach, and an unidentified man were walking in the No. 1 lane of the northbound freeway when they were hit by a 2005 Honda Civic.
Garcia sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. The other man was rushed to the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center after sustaining major injuries. His identity and current condition have not yet been released.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the events leading up to the deadly collision. Authorities were also trying to confirm why Garcia and the other man were walking on the freeway. No further information regarding this incident is available to the public at this time.
