65-Year-Old Indio Man Identified as Pedestrian Crash Victim near Apache Street
INDIO, CA (July 1, 2018) – A man was killed early Sunday morning after he was struck by a vehicle near Apache Street. The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner’s office later identified the victim as 65-year-old Jose Francisco Pinela, of Indio.
According to the Indio Police Department, the collision took place at 3:42 AM. Pinela was crossing Avenue 44 when he was struck by a vehicle.
The injured pedestrian was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:37 AM.
Authorities confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative. The driver claimed that he failed to see Pinela crossing in the roadway. A full investigation is ongoing to determine liability and whether or not any criminal charges should be filed.
