Jose Calderon Dead after Escalon Fiery Collision on Santa Fe Road
RIVERBANK, CA (September 6, 2019) – A 46-year-old man identified as Jose Calderon died after a fiery crash on Tuesday, September 3.
According to the CHP, at around 11:20 p.m., Jose Calderon, of Riverbank, drove south on Santa Fe Road just south of River Road in a Mini Cooper. Then for undetermined reasons, he drifted west off of the roadway and struck a raised asphalt curb.
The Mini Cooper rolled over multiple times as it traveled down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol. The impact ejected Calderon and he landed near the Mini Cooper.
The Mini Cooper caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed. It spread to the dry grass around the vehicle and enveloping Calderon, CHP said. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
