Traffic Control Assistant Critically Injured in Anaheim Car Accident

 
ANAHEIM, CA (March 11, 2019) – An Anaheim Police Department traffic control assistant was critically injured in a DUI car collision on March 9.
 
According to the authorities, a male Placentia resident crashed his pickup truck into the traffic control assistant’s vehicle. In addition, the Placentia man was allegedly under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana at the time.
 
Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt revealed that they arrested 34-year-old Jose Alfredo Alcantar Garcia. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, possession of methamphetamine for sales, and transportation of methamphetamine. In addition, he was charged with driving on a suspended license and hit-and-run.
 
The victim was directing traffic on La Palma Avenue, across the street from Servite High School. Soon after, Garcia’s 2017 Toyota Tundra hit the marked city pickup truck from behind.
 
“She was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries,” Wyatt stated. “Coworkers and paramedics rendered medical aid. She was transported to a local trauma center where she remains in critical condition.”
 
Officials added that the detectives found out that Garcia was under the influence of drugs. He was also found in possession of methamphetamine. In addition, the authorities discovered that Garcia was involved in a separate hit-and-run accident.
 
No one else suffered injuries in the crash, which occurred an hour before the incident with the traffic control assistant.
 
Garcia’s bail was set at $100,000 pending his initial court appearance.
