Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Crash on Loop 202 in Phoenix

 
PHOENIX, AZ (January 4, 2020) – One person was killed following a wrong-way crash early Saturday morning on Loop 202 in Phoenix.
 
Authorities received a call of a wrong-way driver just before 3 a.m. The vehicle was going north in the southbound lanes of the Loop 202 near Ray Road. That vehicle then crashed into a commercial vehicle near Elliot Road.
 
As a result, the wrong-way driver died at the scene. Authorities identified him as 31-year-old Josafath Rubio-Hernandez of Laveen.
 
No other injuries were reported.
 
Investigators have not ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash.
 
The southbound lanes of SR-202 near Elliot Road have reopened.
