53-Year-Old Jorge Vasquez Topete Killed in North Sanborn Road 2-Car Crash [Salinas, CA]

Salinas, CA (February 13, 2024) On Sunday evening, 53-year-old Jorge Vasquez Topete of Salinas died and a person was hurt in the North Sanborn Road 2-car crash.

According to the Salinas Police Department (SPD), the fatal hit-and-run crash happened at about 11:14 p.m. on North Sanborn Road and Freedom Parkway.

Reports say that 27-year-old Juan Manuel Gonzalez was driving a vehicle that crashed into the vehicle Topete was driving. Officials say that Topete was an Uber driver and had a passenger who was injured due to the collision.

Authorities pronounced Topete dead at the scene, while medics rushed the injured passenger to Natividad Medical Center for treatment.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez fled the scene and was subsequently arrested by SPD on Monday morning and is booked into the Monterey County Jail on vehicular manslaughter charges and felony hit and run.

Police are investigating the deadly hit-and-run crash and have not released further details at this time.
