GILROY, CA (October 15, 2019) – A man killed in a big rig crash Tuesday morning on Highway 25 in Gilroy has been identified as 49-year-old Jorge Abonce Garcia of San Juan Bautista, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. just north of Bolsa Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Garcia was driving a 2002 Freightliner southbound and could not stop in time to avoid hitting a 2008 Kenworth turning onto the highway in front of him.
As a result, Garcia suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, the CHP said.
The Kenworth overturned on its side, spilling oil and fuel on the roadway. The CHP said the driver, identified as a 49-year-old San Jose man, suffered minor injuries.
Highway 25 was closed between Bolsa Road and Bloomfield Avenue during the investigation.
