Jonathen Maldonado Killed in Hesperia Pedestrian Accident on Mariposa Road
HESPERIA, CA (October 18, 2019) – A 24-year-old man identified as Jonathen Maldonado died after a van struck him on Wednesday, October 16.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened near Mariposa Road and Live Oak Street. Maldonado, a resident of Apple Valley, was struck by a Honda Odyssey in the area.
Deputies and emergency personnel responded just after 7 p.m. and pronounced Maldonado dead at the scene.
The driver of the van stayed at the scene and cooperated with deputies.
Investigators said that Maldonado walked northbound on Mariposa Road when the van struck him from behind. Before this, they said he rode as a passenger in his girlfriend’s vehicle near 15 Freeway and Main Street.
He left behind two daughters, aged 3 and 5, according to a family member.
Officials shut down Mariposa Road in both directions from Live Oak Street to Main Street until around 11:00 p.m. because of the investigation.
